What is NLP?
Increasingly validated by the field of Neuro-Science, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is now acknowledged as the most effective approach currently available to achieve personal change.
NEURO refers to the way how our brain and nervous system actually operates and runs our body
LINGUISTIC refers to the manner our language fashions our own behaviour and that of others around us
PROGRAMMING refers to our own mental "software", the processes which underlie our behaviours and beliefs, both in relation to ourselves and other people
NLP was developed in the US in the 70s by Dr. Richard Bandler and Pr. John Grinder. Its success has led to its rapid worldwide expansion. NLP is a dynamic discipline: new and even more effective approaches are being developed all the time.
Unlike other therapies, which can be slow and protracted, NLP is unsurpassed at achieving results which are at the same time rapid, respectful and lasting.
NLP can enable you to achieve even greater self-understanding and change to address both personal and professional issues in safety.
Far more than a mere set of techniques for which it is already renowned, you will find that the principles which underpin NLP make it the most effective therapy to achieve the outcome you really want for yourself.
When people have completed the process, they commonly comment that they wish they had started it much earlier, saving themselves a lot of unnecessary grief. We hope you agree and feel the same.
What Will NLP Do For Me?
NLP is used by top agencies and governments to resolve international traumas and distress. For example, the UN hired whole teams of NLP therapists called to assist traumatised people in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo and the American Government did likewise to treat soldiers suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders after the Gulf War.
NLP is excellent at resolving personal problems and difficulties, both mental and physical, i.e. working remedially, also known as therapy.
IT WILL HELP YOU TO:
Resolve issues in your life which have caused you anger, guilt, self hatred, loss of self-control, or undermined your self-esteem
Satisfactorily explore and redress conflictual situations
Clear away irrational feelings, fears and phobias, addictive or obsessive-compulsive behaviours, post-traumatic stress -including those linked to abuse - and intrusive flashbacks
Come to terms with difficult situations due to grief, loss, change or irrational behaviour
Constructively cope with stress or dis-stress
Let go of self-beliefs which limit you in some way
Acquire or restore esteem and respect for yourself
(Re)Gain a sense of control over your own destiny
Face the ultimate with serenity
And much more besides...
NLP is also unsurpassed at working generatively, known as coaching, building on your positives, so that your life becomes even better.
THUS IT MAY ALSO ENABLE YOU TO:
Generalise to other areas skills you already have, so that what you are already doing well becomes even better
Identify long-term outcomes and how to achieve them
Understand yourself and what really motivates you
Achieve balance in your life between all the areas which concern you, personally, professionally and beyond
Develop a sense of your mission in life, of what you were born to accomplish, both for yourself and for other people
Learn how to identify your allies, people who will help you to realise your vision, your purpose in the world
And much more besides...
Seeking Help: How To Go About It
First be sure you really want to do something about your problem: after all, if you don't, what’s the point? Since my reputation depends on my success and I rely on word of mouth to thrive, it is in our mutual interest that I am both quick and effective.
I tailor my work to suit your own needs, established at our first contact. Sessions vary in length, depending on the processes chosen for you: when we’re halfway through a process, I never throw clients out when an hour is up, since evidence shows this to be counterproductive or even harmful. The longest session will last at most two hours. Irrespective of your problem, you will always leave me much better than when you arrive.
The number of sessions depends on individuals. In contrast with other forms of therapies, my clients require only 4 sessions on average, although many people may require even less and people with deeper presenting problems may need slightly more. This means you can be well much quicker.
Requiring less time and fewer sessions to produce results, you can enjoy being well much earlier and actually save money in the bargain. After all, do you want to keep your problem any longer than you need to? So, invest in your well-being.
What Will It Cost?
Sessions are only £60/hour or pro rata for longer sessions during the day. I also offer sessions in the evening (8pm finish at the latest) or at the weekend but charge £75/hour for this convenience. Should resources happen to be a difficulty, flexible payment terms can easily be negotiated, since I believe that, irrespective of your financial situation, you should have the opportunity to access my services. I also accept all credit and debit cards and do not charge interest.
So, having decided that you want to see me as a client, just give me a call. We will discuss your requirements and negotiate financial arrangements. I am happy to work with couples at no extra cost.
Ultimately, you will find that seeing me is the quickest and cheapest way for you to get as well as you really want to be.
Confidentiality
Since I abide by the rules and regulations of the bodies to which I belong, your confidence is safeguarded.
Moreover, the very approach I take means that confidentiality is easy to observe, no matter what you may be bringing up.
My Operating Principles
Your mind and your body are part of the same system: what affects one inevitably affects the other and vice-versa.
We always communicate at unconscious and conscious levels at the same time.
The intention behind anything you do is fundamentally positive for you.
Whatever you’re currently doing is the best choice currently available to you, until a better choice comes along.
All our actions are based on our subjective perceptions of reality rather than on objective reality itself.
Rapport therefore means that I respect and meet you at your own perceptions of reality.
What you do is not who you are .I might disapprove of what you do and yet respect who you are as a human being.
Individuals with the greatest flexibility have the highest chance of achieving the response they desire.
I therefore cultivate my own flexibility to enable you to achieve your own outcome. Resistance in a client is a sign of lack of rapport: there are no resistant clients, only inflexible therapists.
There are no unresourceful persons, only unresourceful states.
You have within yourself all the resources you need to achieve the change you desire. My role is to enable you to identify and access these resources in the best manner. I aim to enable you to evaluate your own behaviour and change in terms of where, when, how and with whom you operate (including yourself), so that you can sustain the change you want in the long term.
All the processes I carry out with you should increase the range of choices you perceive as available to you.
All these processes should increase your own sense of wholeness and well-being. I am in charge of my own mind, and therefore of my results.
My Background
In addition to being a therapist, I am a qualified NLP & Neuro-Semantics Trainer, training among others, doctors, nurses and dentists, as well as educators and social workers, in my discipline. Based in Halifax, I also work in freelance consulting.
With degrees in Linguistics and Teaching from British and French Universities and a background of working for Education, the Voluntary Sector and the NHS, I have contributed to a range of journals and books on matters of consciousness and Emotional Intelligence.
I came to NLP after a personal bereavement severely impacted on my own health. NLP enabled me to come to terms with my feelings and to acknowledge my own experience as an opportunity to grow.
I thus welcome the opportunity my training has given me to enable other people, such as you, to achieve your full potential and successfully steer your own course through the ‘river of life’, both through the therapy and coaching I offer and the training and consultancy I provide.
