7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence reveals the structuring beneath Emotional Intelligence (EI), utilising its unique framework to combine EI and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), - the study of excellence which examines how behaviour is neurologically formulated.
7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence integrates the insights of EI and NLP to promote a greater understanding of how emotions work -and how they can be worked upon.
This book is driven by one important message, ‘Don’t just think about it, do it!’ A model-based guide packed with powerful NLP exercises and self-assessment techniques, it allows you to design your own EQ improvement system, and to partake in an intensive EQ excellence course that utilises the self-programming practices of NLP.
A thoroughly structured, functionally formatted guide to improving your EQ, 7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence serves as a textbook of EI theory, a manual of NLP techniques, and a workbook that systematically leads you through the process of dynamic EQ improvement. It answers the essential EI questions:
What do my emotions mean? How do I manage my emotions? How can I deal with conflict in an emotionally intelligent way? What motivates people and how can I take this into account? How can I handle situations in the best possible way? How can I get what I want AND satisfy others also? |

Eclectic at heart, and trained among others by Tad James, Robert Dilts and John Grinder, Denis did his Trainer’s Training with Richard Bandler and John LaValle in Munich in 1995. He is one of the few NLP trainers worldwide to have received permission from Richard to run Design Human Engineering® training.
Denis has worked in depth with Michael Hall, the developer of Meta-States®, Frame Games® and of the Neuro-Semantics® model, which integrates at the highest level NLP and General Semantics, and was recently made Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Neuro-Semantics® for his contributions to the field . The sole Neuro-Semant cs® trainer currently in the UK, he runs Meta-States®, Accessing Personal Genius and Mind-Lines courses across the country.
His breadth of culture has enabled him to build bridges between very diverse disciplines and to enrich NLP even more as a result. He runs courses both in the UK and in France. His Master Practitioner training is unique in Europe and was recently labelled “undeniably the most interesting currently available in the UK.”
Denis was recently published by Open University Press, contributing chapters to Volumes II and III of its “Pink Therapy” series. RUDY VANDAMME has been a professional trainer and coach since 1987 and was certified as an NLP trainer by the International NLP Trainer Association in 1996, the same year in which he became director of his own Belgian institute, The School for NLP.
He has had many years of experience in training and coaching in large companies and corporations such as Nestlé, Capco, P & V, and Duracell.
He is currently working for his Ph.D. at the University of Leuven (Belgium), where he is studying the application of psychotherapeutical techniques to coaching activities. PATRICK E. MERLEVEDE, M.SC. is an organisational consultant and trainer, specialising in Emotional Intelligence and knowledge management.
In 1990 he graduated as a Commercial Engineer at Leuven University (Belgium), majoring in Computer Science (a five-year program combining Engineering and Economics) and, in 1992, obtained his Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science.
During his multi-disciplinary training, he learned about developments in Linguistics, Psychology, Medicine, and Engineering. This led him to become actively involved in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), highlights of which include the development since 1994 of Merl’s World of NLP, one of the first NLP websites and, in 1996, his training with Robert Dilts at NLP University in Santa Cruz California, where he was certified as an NLP trainer and modeller. Patrick is the CEO of the Integral Perspectives Group, an international network of NLP-inspired companies.
Working towards his Ph.D., he applies NLP modelling strategies to, among other things, treating whiplash conditions. He also contributes articles in the domains of Computer Science, Neurolinguistics and Human Resources Management (HR).
Earlier in his career, Patrick’s main business achievements were in the field of Knowledge Management. He worked as a consultant on projects for the Social Security sector, insurance companies, banks and a number of industrial companies and founded his own consultancy, Acknowledge, now a member of the Integral Perspectives Group, in 1997 . Acknowledge specialises in applying neurolinguistic principles to human resources and knowledge management and has developed a series of course materials aimed at helping participants to develop their emotional intelligence, some of which is now integrated in the present book. With the accelerated pace of change in our “wired” world in mind, Acknowledge’s consulting and training experience led to the development of jobeq.com a company aimed at improving HR domains such as recruitment, coaching and training in the internet age.
Patrick’s own main interests include finding better ways to recruit people, and emotional intelligence in general. To this effect, he has been developing several online questionnaires for use in recruiting and team-building, including one called the iWAM (Internet Work Attitude and Motivation) toolset, which expands and evolves further the well-known LAB profile. You can take these tests free of charge on his website, www.jobeq.com .
